SUPER COOLSCAN 9000 ED |
|
|
The single most important
element in the production of high-quality scans is the lens. As
a world leader in optical technology,
Nikon has incorporated lenses of the highest quality. Compared
to ordinary glass, the ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lens elements
are superior in edge-to-edge sharpness, definition and contrast,
as well as color registration, saturation and accuracy. The SUPER COOLSCAN 9000 ED’s multi-format
capability is specifically designed for imaging professionals. The 9000 ED’s
large-diameter Scanner Nikkor ED lens, 3-line
CCD image sensor
and LED light source with rod dispersion have all been improved
for enhanced image quality. These
premium features represent the leading edge in professional
desktop imaging. With 4,000 dpi optical resolution and
16-bit A/D conversion, astoundingly vivid images are produced. The LED light source is also specially designed for
multi-format scanning, with LEDs for each color (RGB plus IR)
using dispersed rod illumination. The result
is a smoother reproduction of picture grain and more accurate
reading and rendering of every color. The SUPER COOLSCAN 9000 ED, with Nikon Scan
4, provides comprehensive digital darkroom capability.
Enhanced LED illumination has enabled the incorporation of
Digital ICE Professional™, which is effective with Kodachrome
film Nikon’s Color Management System (CMS) also
ensures that
every shade and hue can be accurately reproduced in nearly all
operating environments thereby achieving high-quality images that remain faithful to the original color
composition. Most
scanners use halogen or fluorescent lamps as light sources and
the heat they generate can cause damage to film.
The SUPER COOLSCAN 9000 ED employs LEDs
as the source of light. LEDs are a stable, precise light
source that represents no risk of heat-related damage. LED
illumination also assures stability in color characteristics,
which contributes to faithful reproduction.
Nikon’s world-renowned optics and
innovative lighting help to optimize the effectiveness of
Digital ICE4 Advanced™ components, making Nikon scanners and the
automatic image correction technology an ideal match. The latest
editions of Nikon’s COOLSCAN film scanners are the first ever to
offer Digital ICE™, Digital ROC™, Digital GEM™ and Digital DEE™
all in one package. Nikon has upgraded its negative
film scanning algorithm, significantly boosting image quality.
Details that were once hidden in the darker portions of an image
are now revealed. Correction of color casts found in color
negative film has also been achieved, and monochrome negative
film scans now offer smoother, more natural gradation. Efficient autofocus delivers crisp,
accurate images. Scanning curled film strips and film mounts of
varying thickness means that the film plane will not always be
in the same position relative to the lens. This makes accurate
focusing essential in producing superior-quality scans. Nikon’s
new film scanners feature fast, precise autofocusing, for crisp,
clear images quickly and easily. The multi-sample scanning feature
exposes details in the darker portions of photos while
eliminating nearly all
that can appear in those areas
after only one scan. By making as many as 16 passes,
multi-sample scanning helps ensure faithful reproduction with
smoother gradation. Digital ICE™ (Image Correction &
Enhancement) works in tandem with Nikon’s special LED
illumination to remove surface defects like dust and scratches
from a scanned image without altering the underlying
composition, details or any other elements of the original
image. The 9000 ED features Digital ICE
Professional™ which is an advanced version of Digital ICE™ and
compatible with Kodachrome film. Digital ROC™ (Restoration Of Color)
restores colors lost through fading of the original film. After
calculating the amount of color shift, it then instantly
rebuilds and restores the deteriorated color values
automatically. The results are faithfully rendered digitized
images. Digital GEM™ (Grain Equalization &
Management) reduces the effects of film grain. It reads the
grain details in film, extracting all the vital data related to
image quality and color. The resulting images are sharp, clear
and devoid of grain clumping or graininess. Digital DEE™ (Dynamic Exposure
Extender) makes its debut in Digital ICE4 Advanced™. This new
feature helps reveal details that are sometimes lost in shadows
and highlights. It compensates for the underexposure of backlit
subjects or shaded areas as well as the overexposure of brightly
lit areas.

MINOLTA
DiMAGE SCAN MULTI PRO
|
|
|
The Minolta DiMAGE Scan Multi PRO film scanner is equipped with 4,800
dpi optical resolution for 35mm. With a pixel count of more than 33-million. The scanner's core component, a 7,260-pixel, 3-line color
CCD, is
enhanced by the inclusion of a dual focus-length lens system. The result:
photographers can produce files suitable for fine exhibition-quality output
with the DiMAGE Scan Multi PRO. Digital GEM (Grain Equalization & Management) is able to
analyze a film’s unique grain pattern pixel by pixel, extract all vital data
related to image quality, color, and sharpness, then algorithmically remove
the grain from the scanned record of that image. Film graininess can be
significantly reduced, to an extent hard to achieve with normal
image-manipulation software. Digital GEM enhances the clarity of an image by
applying correction on the graininess of film emulsion while preserving the
colors and gradations of the image. The DiMAGE Scan Multi PRO features Applied Science Fiction's™ (ASF™) Digital ICE3 (pronounced Digital ICE "cubed") image enhancing technology
for automatic image correction and restoration. Digital ICE3 is the
combination of three digital enhancement tools: Digital ICE™ (Image
Correction and Enhancement), Digital ROC™ (Reconstruction of Color) and
Digital GEM™ (Grain Equalization and Management). With easy-to-use settings,
Digital ICE3 eliminates scratches on photographic film or slides, restores
faded colors and improves on a photograph's overall appearance by minimizing
grain, quickly and automatically during the scanning process. This trio of
image processing tools can be selected individually or in combination. Digital
ICE3 is applicable to color film only and is not recommended for use with
Kodachrome film. Minolta's new autofocusing
system quickly focuses on the center of the image and produces
razor-sharp scans. The Point AF mode is able to focus accurately
on any point in the film area. Image processing gives additional control
over image sharpness. If the original film image is soft, edges and details
can be sharpened using the new unsharp mask, which produces subtle, yet
striking, micro-image edge enhancement without effecting smooth gradations.
Multi-sample scanning delivers virtually
noise-free images, giving smooth and
natural results for up to 16 samples. The DIMAGE Scan Multi PRO automatically
adjusts to the density range of scanned negatives to optimize the
reproduction. For example, negatives with a large density range, such as
pictures with backlit subjects, are controlled so that the highlight area
retains detail rather than being washed out. Color images with a dominant
color are analyzed to preserve the original appearance of the scene. The
autoexposure (AE) Area Lock allows users to adjust exposure of the film by
selecting an area on the image to calculate a new exposure. |
