Small text files that issuing Web servers send to
the visiting computer. Cookies can be labeled as:

Temporary; cookies that are
stored only for the current browsing session or contain a
predetermined expiration date so they are automatically
deleted after a specified period of time .

Persistent; cookies will remain
stored on the computer's hard drive even after Visitor closes

browser. Persistent cookies are commonly used to store
information which will be retained and made available when
that computer is used to revisit the issuing
Web server. Additionally, Persistent cookies are
commonly used for advertisement / marketing purposes.
Cookies hold information that can make the
Visitor's internet experience more enjoyable by eliminating the
necessity of reentering the same information numerous times
while visiting the same Web site. Furthermore, cookies
retain Visitor's IDs thereby allowing the Visitor to add
items to the shopping cart and continue shopping with out
checking after each entry.
