"IP Address"

An  (Internet Protocol Address) is a unique string of numbers separated by periods used to identify an individual commuter on the internet.  These numbers are automatically assigned by the Internet Service Provider (ISP) when the computer is used to go online.  IP addresses may be static (fixed); however, many are assigned dynamically which means a new number is assigned each time the computer is used to log on to the internet.
